Program-Specific Instructions

Endorsement Requirement Worksheet: Endorsements (Content Area Review) are academic prerequisites required by the state of Virginia Department of Education for all teaching licensure programs. Applicants will need to create an account with our Content Area Review system and upload corresponding documents. Our Content Area Review Specialist will verify academic credentials and provide advising on additional requirements in necessary. Applicants must upload this document to their application. Specific information on this process can be found on our Content Area Review Page. 

Social Security Number (SSN) Requirement

All teacher licensure candidates are required to have a Social Security Number (SSN) to be licensed by the Virginia Department of Education. International students without an SSN can complete the master's program but cannot apply for state licensure. George Mason University is not able to obtain an SSN for applicants who do not have one.

Field Placements and Internship

Field placements in accredited PK-12 schools are a crucial part of the world language education programs. 15 hours of field work are required per course in fulfillment of licensure requirements. The School of Education assigns field placement locations. A semester long full-time internship is required at the end of this program.
